Recorded over three years at a studio deep in the bowel of Melbourne’s RMIT University, ‘In consciousness and out’ is the debut full length album from Ancient Free Gardeners. The album spans ten tracks shot from all angles with a range of audio lenses. From pop ballads like first single selection, ‘Hyacinth’, to the angry indie rock of ‘Bernie’, the work knits together like a warm woollen jumper, yet sits as a rainbow of threads individually woven. The band collaborated with producer/engineer Tim Johnston (Stereophonics / Nick Cave) on the release, which ‘would have come out earlier, if we’d got those arts grants and if we’d written the songs a little more quickly’.
